English Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Monday that the country will enter a new emergency shutdown total for six weeks, until mid-February, as a way to contain the new variant of the coronavirus that has been creeping throughout the territory. England registered a daily record of 58,784 positive cases on Monday, in what was the seventh consecutive day with more than 50 thousand cases.

Boris Johnson asked the population to stay home as long as possible and walking on public roads is only allowed in case of medical needs, food purchases, physical exercise or face-to-face work in case teleworking is impossible. All schools will be closed for six weeks and restaurants, bars and cafes can only operate in to carry out and home deliveries.

However, and although this confinement is not at all similar to the one in force at the beginning of the pandemic, professional football competitions, including the Premier League, will not be affected.
