Bad weather: Almost 850 occurrences until 7:00 p.m. due to Barbara’s depression – Present

On Monday Civil Protection counted 510 incidents as of 11:59 pm.

The Barbara depression crossed the Portuguese continent this afternoon, with heavy rains in eight districts and strong winds throughout the country, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

In a statement early in the afternoon, the IPMA revealed that, according to the most up-to-date forecasts, the Bárbara depression should maintain its initially planned trajectory, reaching the Spanish region of Galicia later in the day.

Given the forecast of bad weather, ANEPC issued an alert to the population and recommended the adoption of appropriate behaviors to the meteorological situation.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the districts of Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja, Santarém, Évora, Castelo Branco and Portalegre were under red alert between 12:00 and 18:00 due to the forecast of rain intense and strong wind.

The red warning corresponds to a meteorological situation of extreme risk. Faced with this situation, the IPMA recommends that people keep up to date with the evolution of meteorological conditions and follow the civil protection guidelines.

IPMA also warned that the possibility of extreme wind events is expected to occur locally.

As for maritime disturbances, until Wednesday it will be southwest with two to 3.5 meters of coastline, temporarily between four and 4.5 meters south of Cabo da Roca, becoming northwest on Thursday.

The expected effects of the passage of the Barbara depression through mainland Portugal are heavy rainfall, increased wind intensity with gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour and up to 130 kilometers per hour in the mountains and maritime disturbances, especially on the coast of southern region.
