Azores with 9 new cases in São Miguel and 1 in Santa María

The case diagnosed in Santa María, yet to be determined, refers to a person residing on the island, in Santa Bárbara, who tested positive after having had an infection more than three months ago. This case is not compatible with the UK variant.

The cases referred to São Miguel are the result of community transmission: two in the municipality of Nordeste, both in Achadinha, one in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo, São Miguel parish, one in Lagoa, Santa Cruz parish and five in the Ponta Delgada municipality, three in São José and two in São Pedro.

Also in the last 24 hours, there was a recovery in Terceira, in the parish of Feteira, in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo. This island now has no active positive cases.

Nine patients are hospitalized, all in the Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo, in Ponta Delgada, four of them in the Intensive Care Unit.

The Region currently registers 124 active positive cases, 123 in São Miguel (93 in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, 14 in the municipality of Nordeste, eight in the municipality of Lagoa, four in Ribeira Grande, three in Vila Franca do Campo and one in the municipality of Povoação) and one in Santa Maria, in the parish of Santa Bárbara, in the municipality of Vila do Porto. The active surveillance number is currently 821.

On the island of São Miguel, the municipalities of Lagoa, Povoação, Ribeira Grande and Vila Franca do Campo are at a very low risk level. In Médio Alto Risco is the municipality of Ponta Delgada and in Alto Risco, the municipality of Nordeste.

All the municipalities of the rest of the islands of the archipelago have very low risk levels. There are special measures to contain the pandemic in São Miguel, until 11:59 pm the following Sunday. In the same period, the measures are also in force for the rest of the islands of the Region, where all the municipalities remain at Very Low Risk. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,205 positive cases of covid-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores, with 3,943 people having recovered from the disease. 30 died, 67 left the archipelago and 41 presented proof of prior cure. 199 local transmission chains were extinguished.
