At-risk students (who prove they are) may have distance learning on their way back to school – Observer

Students considered at risk, in the event of an eventual Covid-19 infection, will be able to have distance learning upon their return to school, although this is not mandatory and should be discussed with their families.

The Ministry of Education issued an order in this regard, which is an adaptation of the ordinance to support students with oncological disease. Thus, it foresees that students can have a non-face-to-face follow-up, “using supports that allow them to maintain contact with the original class, in agreement with the family, and mobilize resources in case of obvious need.”

However, there is a safeguard: these situations require that the student’s clinical condition be certified. In other words, only those students who have declared “increased risk and whose absence from school is not harmful due to other factors will be covered, and the use of this regime is not mandatory.”

The order also explains what parents and guardians who intend to request exemption from classroom activities and classroom activities in the context of a group or class must do.

These guidelines apply to “students who, according to the guidelines of the health authority, must be considered at risk and who cannot attend classroom teaching and training activities in a group or class context.” For this, the countries must present a medical statement that proves the student’s health status and the reasons that justify their protection, and a statement of acceptance of the alternative learning plan.

Schools are responsible for defining educational support measures that apply to each student. Among the planned educational measures, there are special conditions for evaluation and school attendance; and individual educational support in the school context or at home, in person or remotely, through the use of computerized media.

Parents can request this scheme at school, but they must be listened to to determine the measures to take and have access to all the information about their children’s learning.
