ASAE announced this Saturday that it seized 61,954 textile articles, valued at around 100,000 euros, in an industrial warehouse in Vila do Conde with a license to store textiles, but which also operated as a clothing and packaging unit.

In a statement, the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) reported that the seizure resulted from an investigation into the existence of crimes of fraud and counterfeiting of goods, carried out through the National Unit of Information and Criminal Investigation of the ASAE, and that those affected are “suspected of violating the industrial property rights of trademark holders and of intentionally misleading consumers with the authenticity of the product.”

Based on this investigation, the ASAE “found that, as a” modus operandi “, the recipients received textile articles from national factories, such as pants, sweaters or jackets, the majority being ‘raw’ (without brand or, depending on the pieces, only with external embroidery), placing on the articles, in those facilities, the fabric labels of protected counterfeit brands ”, the statement explains.

The objective of the investigation “also proceeded to its individual packaging and has already placed the respective price labels of the outer cartons, with a ‘layout’ identical to the original,” states the ASAE.

“The prices shown on the external labels would correspond to the values of authentic products, fraudulently entering the commercial circuit (national and foreign) and intentionally creating the consumer’s error that they were original products,” advances ASAE.

ASAE also affirms that “the investigation will continue, with the objective of the complete investigation of the network of commerce of these products, in favor of the healthy and fair competition, the protection of the consumer and the protection of the rights of industrial property”.
