As of March 1, household appliances receive new energy labels and the scale of energy efficiency classes returns to its original form, from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient), to simplify the information that users have access to. consumers when buying a new product.
Beginning March 1, refrigerators, freezers, wine storage devices, dishwashers, washing machines, combination washers and dryers, televisions and digital displays will begin introducing the new label in physical stores and online. a declaration. In the case of lamps, the change will not be effective until September 1.
The change is implemented in order not to continue misleading consumers, since, in some categories, the vast majority of products are already in the upper classes of the A, A +, A ++ or A +++ scale , which makes it difficult to distinguish between the most energy efficient products. Faced with the problem, the European Commission and the Member States chose to optimize the requirements and return to the initial scale, from A to G, for all product groups.
It should be noted that these new energy labels, designed to provide the public with more detailed and accurate information, present not only data on electricity consumption and performance, but also energy and non-energy information accessible through a QR code.
Two projects supported the implementation of the new energy label, BELT (Boost Energy Label Take Up) and LABEL2020, both funded by the European Union under the “Horizon 2020” program. In Portugal, DECO PROTESTE, in collaboration with Worten, is responsible for implementing the BELT Project, while ADENE, in coordination with the Directorate General for Energy and Geology, is the entity responsible for implementing the LABEL2020 project.
All information on the changes to the new labels is disclosed in the BELT Project tool, available at: https://www.deco.proteste.pt/nova-etiqueta-energética. In addition, the LABEL2020 Project collected all the information on the subject on the website: www.novaetiquetaenergetica.pt, where a tool capable of helping consumers in the use of this novelty will soon be made available.
