According to the same publication, this measure is included in the law approved by Parliament last Friday, which also includes another rule that extends protection to tenants until December 31.

It is recalled that as of March, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government established a protection system for tenants, in which it suspended resignations and expiration of lease contracts, unless the tenant so wishes .

The measures are now extended until December 31.

However, in addition to the extension of the deadline, the Government decided on another measure, which has not yet been promulgated or published in the Diário da República. Protection for tenants is only ensured according to “the regular payment of the rent owed”, applying this rule to the “months of October to December 2020”, which means that if there is a default, the tenants are no longer protected . and the owner can terminate the contract.
