António Costa backs down and suspends debate on the application

The topic of the moment remains the STAYAWAY COVID app. Prime Minister António Costa warned about its use and even went so far as to say that it would make it mandatory for some groups. The discussion broke out, but in the middle of this scenario, many Portuguese installed the application and more codes were generated.

Now the Government has revealed that it will only advance with the discussion on the use of masks on public roads. The STAYAWAY COVID app is for later.

The current application is called STAYAWAY COVID and it is a tool to help fight the pandemic caused by COVID-19.  Much has been said and criticized the application, because it was revealed that it could be mandatory and the fines were high.
In the midst of so much "digital debate", perhaps António Costa achieved what he wanted.  The number of downloads has skyrocketed and so has the number of codes generated. According to recent figures, the application has already been installed by more than two million users and 323 user codes have been entered that tested positive for the new coronavirus.

Meanwhile, António Costa referred in an interview to TVI, which has already asked the president of the Assembly of the Republic, Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues, to suspend the debate on the proposal to make the download of the application mandatory.

People got the message very well, the number of people adopting the app has increased, and the number of codes that doctors have been issuing has also increased exponentially.  It took me months to hear people complain that there was never an app again.  Now it is developed and approved by the National Commission for Data Protection, it does not allow tracking movements

For now, the Government will only continue with the discussion on the use of masks on public roads, also proposed by the PSD.  A more consensual issue.
The STAYAWAY COVID application, whose installation is voluntary (for now), allows to identify, quickly and anonymously and through physical proximity, the networks of contagion by COVID-19.  Then, inform users that they have been in the same space 14 in the same space as someone infected with the new coronavirus.
