Presidential candidate Ana Gomes said on Tuesday that if he is reelected, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa “will work to bring the right” to power, led by Passos Coelho, and considered that the PS has not yet conducted a self-analysis of the Socrates government.
In an online conversation with young socialists about the role of the President of the Republic, organized by the Federation of Socialist Youth of the Urban Area of Lisbon and which lasted about two hours, Ana Gomes was asked what distinguishes her from the current President of the Republic and again applied for the position.
Could it be that what the Portuguese and, in particular, the socialist voters want is this stability that is deceptive? In a second term, the president no longer has to be reelected, he will work in a different way and we already have too much evidence to show that President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will work for the right to return to power, “he said.
The former PS MEP stated that it will be “a right, apparently, which will be headed” by former Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho – “promotion strategies have already begun” – and that “he will not hesitate to resort to the normalization of a party of the extreme right to that end “.
For Ana Gomes, the choice made in next Sunday’s elections for the voters and members of the PS is “if they are going to vote for the right-wing candidate and what they will do to leave the right in power” or “which is indisputably socialist “, despite assuming its critical facet.
The candidate admitted that she is more demanding with the Socialists, since it is the party in which she fights, and defended, for example, that the PS should have already done “a self-analysis” on the government of José Sócrates.
“Unfortunately, this is not the case, there was some demarcation by Secretary General António Costa, but there was never an analysis. Regardless of the crimes charged against him and that will be subject to trial, there are unquestionable facts,” he said, recalling that it was during its management that the RERT (Exceptional Regime of Tax Regularization) was created.
“This happened in the Government of Socrates and if the PS does not take care of this and does not assume that it is a mistake and that it was a scheme to divert resources from the State, from my point of view it becomes vulnerable and I want a reinforced PS”, stressed.
