The re-elected president of Chega and announced presidential candidate, André Ventura, defined the former diplomat Ana Gomes as “the gypsy candidate” on Tuesday, after presenting herself as a competitor in the presidential elections in January 2021.

It is the opposite of my candidacy, which brings together ordinary Portuguese ”, defended the leader of Chega.
Ana Gomes put her first opportunity to enter the race at the Belém Palace on May 17, in a space for television comments, saying that she would reflect on this step, although she did not aspire to be a candidate.
At that time, the former PCTP / MRPP activist criticized the statements of the Socialist Prime Minister and Secretary General, António Costa, on a visit to a car factory, together with the President of the Republic.
Later, Costa expressed the expectation of returning to that manufacturing unit with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa already in a second term as head of state, taking his candidacy and reelection for granted.
“Ana Gomes runs against António Costa and against me. I am opposed to the system that destroys the lives of the Portuguese ”, André Ventura concluded.
In a recent interview with the weekly Expresso, the prime minister considered that if Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa did not run again “there would be a serious problem throughout the country.”
Costa also said that, to exercise the functions of head of government, he will adopt an attitude of “modesty” in the next presidential elections.
Meanwhile, in the PS, the candidacy of Ana Gomes has already received the support of the former parliamentary leader and former MEP Francisco Assis and the leader of the minority trend in the Socialist Political Commission, Daniel Adrião.
