One teacher tested positive for covid-19 and four others are in quarantine at S. Mamede’s EB1, in Braga. The lack of teachers compromises the start of the school year with the four classes, scheduled for this Thursday. The Carlos Amarante School Group asks first-year children to stay home.

In a statement to which the MINHO had access, the School Group explains that, after an epidemiological investigation of a case of covid-19, registered in the EB1 of S. Mamede, the DGS through the Public Health Unit of the ARS Norte, notified the Carlos Amarante School Group of the measures adopted “, namely:” a teacher (head of the class) with COVID 19 away from the educational establishment until clinical cure; four teachers (three of whom are members of the class), in prophylactic isolation until September 25 ”.

“Given what happened, S. Mamede’s EB1 runs out of Class Teachers (PTT) to guarantee the start of the school year on the scheduled date (September 17), for its four classes of schooling,” says the signed statement. by the Group director, Hortense Lopes dos Santos.

“The DGEstE was informed of the fact, in the sense of replacing the aforementioned teachers,” adds the statement and, “despite scarce resources, and in order to guarantee the opening of the school year, responding to the needs of students and families, three teachers of Educational Support will ensure the monitoring of children in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade at the school, until the current situation is normalized ”.

“In the current circumstances, the parents and guardians of 1st year students are used, whose conditions allow it, to keep their students in the family environment”, advises the Group.

“As soon as possible, we will communicate the date for the resumption of the teaching activities of all classes,” the statement ends.

The MINHO tried to contact the management of the Carlos Amarante School Group, which until now has not been possible.
