There are almost 150 thousand teachers from preschool to high school and it is these professionals who are protected by the protest called by the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof).
Adherence to unemployment is expected to be high, according to the results of the survey released this week by Fenprof, which revealed that 88.3% of those surveyed believe that it is necessary to continue fighting.
The reasons for the strike are ancient and refer fundamentally to measures of social and material enhancement of the profession of early childhood educators and teachers of basic and secondary education.
Through the strike to face-to-face classes and distance education, teachers claim to change the current retirement requirements and want a pre-retirement regime to be approved.
Almost 90% of teachers would like to retire early and are willing to join a pre-retirement scheme, according to the Fenprof survey, in which more than 5,000 educators and teachers participated.
Almost all respondents (98.2%) consider it urgent to create a specific regime that allows early retirement.
Another requirement is the “elimination of abuses and illegalities in the working day”, since most consider that the hours are “misaligned”.
Teachers are also almost all in agreement (96.9%) regarding unresolved career issues, such as the more than nine years of service that have been frozen and not yet fully recovered for career advancement purposes. .
The end of the vacancies to access the 5th and 7th steps of the teaching career (made up of 10 steps) is another of the measures requested.
Teachers also question the transfer of powers to municipalities, for fear that it will open “the door to interference in the life of schools, to privatization and to cause even greater asymmetries.”
Fenprof accuses the Ministry of Education of a “negotiation block” that prevents negotiations that can solve problems such as aging, “overload of the working day and the consequent wear, precariousness or all the injustices that mark the current state of the teaching career”.
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, teachers are also concerned about health security in schools, mainly because they continue without conducting tests and because there are establishments where the physical distance of two meters recommended by the General Directorate of Health. (DGS).
