Algarve registers 118 new cases of Covid-19

There are another 118 new cases of Covid-19 in the Algarve, according to data from the bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) of this Saturday, January 2, which has just been published.

The Algarve region now has a total of 8,015 cases and 72 deaths, in cumulative numbers since the start of the pandemic.

In Alentejo, there are 97 more confirmed cases (11,528 in total) and nine new deaths from Covid-19 (230 since March).

In the country, today there is a decrease in the number of new cases (+3241), which is due in part to the fact that yesterday was a holiday and fewer tests were carried out. In total, 423,870 people have already been diagnosed with the disease in Portugal.

As for those recovered, there were 1,482 more, which brings to 340,150 the total number of people who have already cured the disease.

Active cases increased again and are now 76,675 (plus 1,686).

In terms of deaths, there were 73 more, compared to yesterday’s bulletin (7045 since the start of the pandemic). In addition to the deaths in Alentejo, there were victims in the North (22), Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (28) and in the Center (14).

By region, Lisbon and the Tagus Valley were the region with the highest daily increase in cases (137,288, plus 1,418), followed by the North (213,813, more than 1104), Center (49,642, more than 447), Alentejo (11,528, more than 97), Algarve (8015, more 118), Azores (1913, more 28) and Madeira (1671, more 29).

In the country’s hospitals, there are now 52 more people hospitalized (2,858 in total). In Intensive Care there are 492 people (plus 9).

Today there are 91,892 surveillance contacts (plus 365).
