This Saturday the Algarve has 47 more cases of Covid-19, according to data from the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) of this Saturday, October 17, which has just been published. In the country as a whole, the barrier of 2000 cases is once again exceeded (today they are +2153), but, even so, this figure represents a significant decrease in relation to yesterday’s figures, when 2608 new infections were registered.
Thus, according to DGS data, the Algarve region has accumulated 2,171 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Today, the epidemiological bulletin already counts one more death in the Algarve, that of a user of a home in Portimão, such as the South Information reported.
Nationwide, there have been 13 more deaths since yesterday, bringing the total to 2,162. Six of those deaths occurred in the north, 5 in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 1 in Alentejo and another in the Algarve.
Despite the large number of new infections, taking into account that the number of recovered patients also increased significantly (more than 853), this means that, in the total of active cases, there was a less marked increase than in previous days: another 287 (for a total of 37,974).
Regarding the evolution of the epidemiological situation by region, the North continues to be the one with the most new cases, with more than 1,124 people infected by the new coronavirus, bringing the accumulated figure to 38,281.
It is followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (47,027, plus 781), Centro (7983, plus 149), Algarve (2,171, plus 47), Alentejo (1,956, plus 42), Azores (317, plus 7) and Madeira. (320 plus 3).
As for the number of people hospitalized in the different hospitals in the country, which yesterday exceeded a thousand, today there is a very slight decrease to 1014 (-1). However, of these, 148 are in intensive care (plus 4).
This Saturday there are more than 759 contacts under surveillance, bringing the total to 52,543.
