The Algarve has a total of 15 students and six members of the school staff, including teachers, infected with Covid-19, revealed this Friday, October 1, at a press conference, the regional health delegate.

According to data provided by Ana Cristina Guerreiro, there are cases “at all educational levels, from kindergarten to high school.”

Regarding the nurseries, there is one infected child in the Alameda Nursery (Faro), three in the Borboleta Nursery (Vila Real de Santo António) and three employees in the Portuguese Red Cross Nursery in Moncarapacho.

In the EB2,3 Schools there are infected in D. Afonso III, in Faro (two students), in D. Martinho Castelo Branco, in Portimão (1 employee), in D. José I, in VRSA (3 students) and in EB2 , 3 from Castro Marim (2 students).

Regarding secondary schools, the schools where there are positive cases of Covid-19 are Tavira (1 employee), Vila Real de Santo António (2 students), Pinheiro e Rosa, in Faro (1 student) and Manuel Teixeira Gomes. , in Portimão (1 employee).

Interestingly, this Portimão secondary school was where the first case of Covid-19 was registered in the region, known on March 8.

When schools establish Covid-19 cases, they activate their contingency plans, which typically include quarantining the class where there are infected students.

For Ana Cristina Guerreiro, the activity of the schools involves “many people, which is no secret.” Even so, she argued, the number of cases in the region “could be higher, given the start of the school year, but the situation is under control.”
