The president of the Regional Government confirmed this afternoon 12 new cases of local transmission and called on the population to remain calm.

On the sidelines of the inauguration of a new car wash center in São Martinho, Miguel Albuquerque admitted that the Region currently has a number of infected people and that health authorities are finishing monitoring the contacts of these people.

“We are doing exhaustive tests and we are taking preventive measures, especially those related to schools and the social area. The situation in Gonçalves Zarco now has the contingency plan activated and the situation must be controlled because the young people who are infected have not gone to school since last Wednesday, ”he said at the time.

Miguel Albuquerque recommends that parents and guardians and the educational community in general comply with the regulations, emphasizing that “it is not worth panicking.”

“Our idea is to follow the procedures and everything is being monitored by the Regional Health Service,” he said.

For now, ruling out a situation of community transmission in Madeira, the president adds, however, that “it is normal, with the flow and with the exponential increase in the number of infected and Madeira, that cases arise”.
