A month before the presidential elections, Marcelo falls in the positive evaluation of the Portuguese | Vote

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa lost 12 percentage points in the positive assessment of the Portuguese as president of the Republic, according to the monthly barometer of Aximage for JN, DN and TSF. The fieldwork was carried out between December 19 and 22 and collected 812 valid interviews.

A month before the presidential elections – and although it is not a survey on them – there is another candidate who rose nine points in the Portuguese assessment, although on a different scale: André Ventura. Chega’s leader was identified by 29% of those surveyed as the leader of the opposition, only surpassed by Rui Rio (with 34%) and leaving third place, Catarina Martins (16%). A month earlier, André and Catarina got 20% on this scale.

The current President of the Republic lost 9 points in the assessment of “very good” and 3% in the assessment of “good”, but still adds 62% of positive evaluations, much more than the 22% of negative evaluations. There are 14% of those surveyed who consider that their performance is neither good nor bad, the same as those who consider it bad and twice as many who think it is “very bad” (7%).

Despite the drop, Marcelo returns to the 60% level where he spent most of his time in the last barometers. And it is still him who the Portuguese trust more than the prime minister: half of those surveyed trust Marcelo more than António Costa (an increase of three points) and only 16% say they trust the prime minister more.

What remains unchanged is the level of expectation of those surveyed regarding the demand of the President of the Republic to the Government: 73% of those surveyed want a Marcelo who demands more from the Government, and this percentage will have to include many socialists , who are more satisfied with the action of the head of state.

The Prime Minister, for his part, keeps his performance assessment practically unchanged: 55% consider it positive (he lost only 1 point) and 27% give him a negative score (one more point). A better balance than that of your Government, to which only 47% give a positive score, compared to 31% who evaluate it negatively.

However, worse is the assessment made of the opposition, which “fails” in the opinion of those surveyed: 40% give it a negative rating and only 25% consider the opposition to be good or very good. What the assessment made of André Ventura ends up making relative: if he is the second leader of the opposition, he is not the leader of something highly appreciated by the Portuguese. But it keeps increasing.
