The fire that devastated the municipality of Abrantes, in the Santarém district, starting at 5:24 p.m. on Saturday, forced the closure of Highway 23, a source from the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) told Lusa. According to the same source, the highway was closed at 7:23 pm. Traffic has already been restored.

To Radio Observador, Commander Rodrigo Bertelo, from the Santarém district operations and rescue command, explained that it was the intensity of the smoke that caused the A23 to be cut off. But he stressed that there are no houses or towns at risk and that “the situation is calmer”, with 50% of the fire extinguished.

The fire burns in Casal do Rei, in the parish of Martinchel, mobilizing, at 9:45 p.m., and according to the Civil Protection page, 367 operatives in the fight against the flames, supported by 99 vehicles. Seven aerial media participated.

According to the CDOS of Santarém, the fire evolves with intensity in a single front, with more combat means en route to the theater of operations.

Also in Ponsul, Castelo Branco, there is a fire that, according to the Civil Protection page, was being fought, at 9.45 pm, by 190 operatives and 60 vehicles. A source from the Castelo Branco District Operations and Rescue Command told Radio Observador that the fire is evolving favorably with an active front. There is no record of injuries.
