A BOLA – Rúben Semedo with business blocked (Benfica)

After making sure Darwin Núñez, Benfica wants to hire a central until the 15th, date of the match with PAOK. The chosen one is Rúben Semedo, 26, an Olympiakos center-back who worked with Jorge Jesus at Sporting. But the transfer remains blocked by the way Benfica proposed the deal.

Evangelos Marinakis, owner of Olympiakos, wants 12 million euros for Rúben Semedo, but can sell the pass for 10 million euros. But Marinakis himself is also the owner of Nottingham Forest, and has to pay the last installment of the 15 million euros agreed with Benfica by João Carvalho when he moved to Forest. Marinakis still has to pay 6 million euros.

Parallel to Rúben Semedo, Olympiakos try to sign Pêpê, V. Guimarães midfielder, but with Benfica having part of the pass. The player has been in Athens for four days to finalize the € 4.5 million deal between V. Guimarães and the Greek champion. But, as agreed between Benfica and Vitória, of those 4.5 million euros, 3 are for eagles. The agreement foresaw 1.5 million euros for Luz’s in an offer equal to or greater than that amount. Whichever is taller would have to be split in half between Eagles and Minho. Hence the 3 million euros.

The objective of Benfica is to use these credits to lower the price of Rúben Semedo, since SAD refuses to pay 10 million euros for a central. Olympiakos did not like this form of business found by Benfica and, for now, delayed the resolution of Pêpê, half requested by Pedro Martins, coach of the Greeks.

The next few days will be of negotiation, with Benfica seeking an understanding from a player that will please coach Jorge Jesús.
