Madeira has a very high risk of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation this Monday and Tuesday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

According to the forecast, both Madeira and Porto Santo are under ‘red warning’ and are in fourth position in an index that includes five risks, namely low (1/2), moderate (3/4 / 5), high ( 6/7), very high (8/9/10) and extreme (+11).

For this Monday, the UV index for Madeira is fixed and Porto Santo is set at 9, while for tomorrow the risk indicators remain very high. For ‘red warning’ regions, IPMA recommends the use of UV filter sunglasses, a hat, a T-shirt, an umbrella, sunscreen and to avoid exposing children to the sun.

Also according to the IPMA, only on Wednesday the risk of exposure to UV rays falls to a high level: 6 in Madeira and 7 in Porto Santo, which still requires care, such as wearing sunglasses with UV filter, hat, shirt and protector solar.
