In addition, it also helped in the functioning of the lungs, thus reducing the length of stay in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit).

According to the article published by the group of researchers, 27 people underwent experimental treatment, with an average age of 56 years and with pre-existing diseases such as diabetes, heart problems and obesity.

The average length of hospital stay varied from 10 to 15 days, considering the particularities of each case, with no death records so far and only three remain in the ICU of the private health unit.

In addition, the investigation identified that the drug was instrumental in the process of unblocking the blood vessels in the respiratory system. Anticoagulant heparin has been used to prevent the treatment of thrombosis. The fact represented a fall in the period when these people needed the help of mechanical respirators.

The experience was coordinated by pulmonologist Elnara Negri, professor at FMUSP (USP Medical School), and also had the participation of other doctors at the institution.

With the first results, they now intend to expand the study after approval by Conep (National Council for Research Ethics).

The inexpensive drug could become an important ally in coronavirus treatment. However, it is necessary to continue showing a good result.
