The PSD of Coimbra considered this Sunday that the decision of the party’s national leadership to suspend the name of Dr. Nuno Freitas as a candidate for the local council is “deeply erroneous and disrespectful of the statutes.”
In a statement, the political council of the PSD of Coimbra reacted to the non-approval of the proposed candidate to try to take the camera away from the PS in the next elections, highlighting today that local social democratic activists unanimously approved the municipal strategic document.
In a post on Friday on his Facebook account, Nuno Freitas wrote: “The national board informed me that the PSD decided not to support the decision of the PSD of Coimbra, the municipal and district bodies, and not to ratify my name as a possible candidate for the next municipal elections and that he will support Professor José Manuel Silva ”.
Today, the PSD of Coimbra reported that the national municipal coordinator, José Silvano, “reported that the name chosen by the local bodies of the PSD of Coimbra to head the party’s candidacy for the next municipal elections in the municipality, the militant, doctor and businessman Nuno Freitas will not be approved by the PSD national political commission ”.
Regarding this decision, which he understands “to be deeply wrong and disrespectful of the statutes, decisions and will of the local bodies and, more importantly, of all those who in the civil society of Coimbra had been helping to build a credible alternative to the PS ”, the council“ comes to publicly apologize ”.
“To Dr. Nuno Freitas our gratitude for the commitment and enthusiasm to lead an alternative political project, which many consider imperative for the future of the municipality and region in which we operate,” the statement also read.
Insisting that it is a “unilateral and authoritarian decision”, they guarantee that the PSD of Coimbra “will remain united and will do everything possible to create the necessary conditions and be the only true alternative to the Socialist Party.”
Deputy António Maló de Abreu was designated “among those” who “tried several times and, even publicly, in recent months, to create disunity and intrigue in the local PSD bases, in a clear attempt at political opportunism and an attempt to van beyond the statutory powers of the PSD ”, a situation that they said“ totally repudiate ”.
In this scenario, they expressed their willingness to “schedule a council meeting to listen, discuss and support this new municipal strategy of the PSD” and assured that “without internal guerrillas” they will prove to be “trustworthy creditors” and “putting Coimbra first.” .
Lusa tried to elicit a reaction from the deputy elected by the Coimbra circle, who refused to do so.
The next municipal elections are scheduled to take place between September and October.
