The former president of Boavista João Loureiro was listened to this Friday for four hours by the Brazilian Federal Police (PF), in the city of Salvador, where files were “extracted” from his cell phone, official sources informed Lusa.

In a statement sent to Lusa, at the end of the statement, Loureiro confirmed that “he made statements as a witness before the competent authorities in Salvador”, highlighting that “he was absolutely unaware of everything that happened.

It is about the seizure, by the Brazilian police, of 500 kilos of cocaine destined for Portugal, hidden in a private plane of which João Loureiro was part of the passenger list.

As reported by the Federal Police to Lusa, Loureiro was heard in person for four hours, during which time he “presented his version of events” and which will be “compared with the other evidence of the investigation.”

“The files were extracted from the cell phone [telemóvel], such as messages and photos, with the authorization of the passenger, and will be analyzed to see if it has been declared ”, said the authorities.

The PF also stressed that the former president of Boavista and the son of Valentim Loureiro is authorized to “return to Portugal whenever he wants,” but “he was warned to report any change of address.”

The version presented by João Loureiro was that he traveled to Brazil to “help a business group” and that “on February 10 he learned of the seizure of the drug on the plane,” according to police sources.

The Federal Police of Brazil seized, last week, half a ton of cocaine destined for Portugal hidden in a private plane of the Portuguese company OMNI Aviação e Tecnologia, after an inspection that agents of that police force made of the aircraft, parked in the runway at Salvador International Airport.

“With the support of federal criminal experts and dogs trained to detect drugs, other hiding places were found in the aircraft where the rest of the drug was found,” the Federal Police said in a statement.

The drug had been divided into packages with an indication of famous sports brands.

According to information from the PF in Salvador, no passenger or crew member of the aircraft was detained or prevented from leaving the country.

João Loureiro, who was on the passenger list of the aircraft, told Lusa today that “he made statements as a witness before the competent authorities of Salvador”, highlighting that “he was completely unaware of everything that happened.”

“As such, I decided to stay in Brazil until they listened to me, because I wanted to confront someone who has the right and who should not be afraid. In fact, when I was arrested in Salvador I was in São Paulo, which is absolutely factual. Now that I have complied with my obligation, I will calmly try to organize my return to Portugal ”, said João Loureiro, in a message, thanking the“ solidarity ”he received from“ Portugal and several Portuguese-speaking countries ”.

Although Brazil does not have its own cocaine production, it is an important intermediary in the shipping routes to Europe of drugs produced in the Andean countries.
