The Brazilian Federal Police seized half a ton of cocaine in a private plane where João Loureiro, former president of Boavista Futebol Clube, was preparing to travel from the city of Salvador da Baía to Portugal on the 9th of this month.

According to information compiled by JN, João Loureiro was inside the plane with only one other passenger, a Spanish citizen of Algerian origin, when the Brazilian police intervened.

At that time, the Lusa news agency reported that those two passengers, whom it did not identify, and the three crew members of the private jet were transferred to the Superintendency of the Federal Police in Salvador to testify. But, as the JN learned this Thursday, the Brazilian Police chose to release these individuals, since they have no proof of their possible responsibility for the shipment of 500 kilograms of cocaine.

This Thursday night, JN tried to get a reaction from João Loureiro, lawyer and son of the eldest Valentim Loureiro, but could not establish telephone contact with him. Furthermore, it could not be confirmed that João Loureiro remains in Brazil.

The plane where the cocaine was seized had already received authorization to take off from the city of Salvador to Portugal, when the police intervened. The apprehension only occurred because the pilot of the aircraft informed the control tower that his flight commands indicated the existence of a malfunction.

After the alert, the mechanics went to the plane and discovered part of the drug, reporting this fact to the Federal Police. The latter, with the support of dogs, detected other hiding places in the structure of the plane with cocaine.

As reported by Lusa at the time, “the drug had been divided into tablets marked with logos of famous sports brands.”
