PJ seizes 100 kilos of cocaine on a cargo ship off the Portuguese coast

In a note sent to the editorial staff, the Judicial Police report that it collaborated with the Navy and the Air Force in an operation to combat drug trafficking, having seized 100 kg of cocaine and detained a 26-year-old man, a national of a country of Latin America, aboard a freighter off the Portuguese coast.

“The ship in question was taken to a national port, after having searched inside,” added the PJ, who also reported that the suspect and the drug were found clandestinely inside the ship without the knowledge of the ship’s captain.

“It is suspected that the defendant was preparing to dump the drugs overboard at a predetermined point on the ship’s route inside waterproof bags equipped with geolocation devices and buoys. The drug would then be collected by accomplices of the same criminal organization, “the note explains.

This operation had the cooperation and support of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), two USA, e do Maritime-Narcotic Operations and Analysis Centers (MAOC-N).

The detainee will be present before the competent judicial authorities for the application of the coercive measures that it deems appropriate.
