Man commits suicide after assaulting woman on dry land

A woman was injured today in Azambuja after alleged attacks by her husband, who later committed suicide, and was transferred to the Vila Franca de Xira Hospital, firefighters reported.

The authorities were alerted at 12:03 to a situation of “domestic violence” in Maçussa, in the municipality of Azambuja, in the district of Lisbon, which resulted in “two victims, one of them a corpse,” the commander of the Firefighters told the Lusa news agency. de Alcoentre, Eifel García.

According to the official, the man, in his 80s, will have “attacked the woman with a blunt and unspecified object,” and then “will have committed suicide.”

The woman suffered “some injuries”, having been transferred to the Hospital Vila Franca de Xira, “with bruises and severe headaches”, but, according to the commander, “she was stable and oriented.”

Two vehicles and five operatives from the Alcoentre Firefighters were at the scene, as well as a GNR patrol, reported the Lisbon District Relief Operations Command.

The case is being investigated by the Judicial Police.
