Benfica submitted participation and the Disciplinary Board opened a lawsuit for the use of midfielder Palhinha by Sporting in the derby on January 2 with the eagles, after the player saw his sanction suspended (due to accumulation of yellows). Sporting, he recalled, appealed the fifth yellow shown to Palhinha in the previous match of the duel with Benfica, which was against Boavista. After playing against Benfica, Palhinha has also been used, in the League, against Marítimo and Gil Vicente, at a time when that fifth yellow, and the consequent sanction, is still under analysis.
But, what is, at the end of the day, the sanction that Sporting runs if the complaint formalized by Benfica is correct?
According to the disciplinary regulations, article 78, “the club that, in an official match, uses players by means of their inclusion in the technical sheet who are not in the regulatory conditions to represent it will be sanctioned (…) in the case of points, with the penalties for defeat and subtraction of points that will be fixed between a minimum of two and a maximum of five points. To this punishment I would also add a fine. This same article specifies as disabled players, for example, those “sanctioned with the sanction of suspension or suspended preventively”.
