The Judiciary detained a 53-year-old woman, an employee of the Coimbra Hospital and University Center (CHUC), suspected of having stolen gold objects from hospitalized patients. He was in preventive detention.
According to the Judicial Police, “the detainee, taking advantage of the functions she performed there, aware of the dynamics of the unit where she worked, subtracted several gold objects, namely rings, threads and earrings, from the patients who were in the hospital , in a situation of special vulnerability and incapable of offering resistance ”and it was the hospital administration who denounced the case.
The woman began working at the CHUC in December 2019 and “crimes occurred repeatedly, and the stolen objects were then sold in establishments for the purchase and sale of gold, thus obtaining large profits.”
The Judicial Branch highlights that the investigation “had the collaboration of the respective Hospital Administration, in denouncing the situation and providing relevant information, contributing decisively to the collection of evidentiary evidence.”
The detainee was heard in the first judicial interrogation and the coercion of preventive detention was applied.
