Enough. The best and the worst

André Ventura set second place as the main goal, ahead of Ana Gomes, and missed that goal, but surpassed the socialist in 11 of the 18 districts of the country and in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

André Ventura, who founded Chega less than two years ago, obtained almost half a million votes throughout the country with 11.9%. The only time that a vote had been taken so far, in the last legislative elections, Chega had only 1.29%, which corresponds to just over 67,000 votes. That is, seven times more in the presidential elections than in the legislative elections in the space of a year and a half.

The best results were obtained in the Alentejo region and in Bragança. Portalegre was the district in which it had the most votes with around 20%, while in Bragança it reached 17%.

In Évora, Beja, Faro, Vila Real, Viseu, Guarda, Santarém, Leiria and Castelo Branco also ranked second.

It was also a municipality in the Alentejo that gave the largest vote to the populist candidate. In Mourão, in the Évora district, he obtained more than 33% of the votes.

Interestingly, Mourão is a municipality governed by the Socialist Party. In the last municipalities, the PS won the elections with an absolute majority. The OPSD came in second place and the rest of the parties did not elect councilors. In the legislatures, António Costa also won in that municipality in 2015 and 2019.

In Lisbon and Oporto, the districts with the most voters, Ana Gomes came in second. In the country’s capital, Ventura had around 12% and in Porto only 8%. If we analyze municipality by municipality, Ana Gomes distances itself in Lisbon with 18% and Ventura with only 11%. The socialist activist also came forward in Oeiras. But in Cascais, Vila Franca de Xira, Azambuja, Loures, Mafra, Alenquer, Sintra, Odivelas, Cadaval, Torres Vedras, Lourinhã, Arruda dos Vinhos, Odivelas and Sobral de Monte Agraço is the Czech candidate that occupies the second place. The best votes were in Azambuja and Cascais around 15%.

In the Porto district the conversation is different. The Chega candidate did not get ahead of the socialist activist in any of the 18 municipalities and in Penafiel he was fourth with fewer votes than Vitorino Silva. In Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga it failed to exceed 10%.
