Several customers of a restaurant in Camarate had to be rescued from a stormwater tunnel. The members of the group tried to escape a PSP inspection, but ended up quite wet and fined.
At 2.30 p.m., the PSP of Loures carried out an inspection action at an establishment of a recreational group in Camarate that was inadequately functioning as a restaurant and similar establishment.
The doors were closed to the space, but police noticed that several people remained inside. Despite several attempts to contact the owner of the establishment, as well as the other customers who were inside, it was not possible to contact them.
Escaped through the runoff tunnel
“Suddenly, customers started fleeing from the back of the store, into a drainage tunnel,” reports PSP. The tunnel was of considerable length, and it is not possible to see its extension beyond 10 meters, both due to the lack of light and the curves of the tunnel.
The objective of the fugitives would be to reach the exit of the tunnel, some 50 meters away, next to a stream that flows into the Trancão river. Police called the violators but received no response. Once a strong stream of water entered the tunnel and the status of the fugitives was unknown, the Camarate Volunteer Firefighters were called.
Two policemen followed
Fearing that the suspects were fleeing, two police officers entered the tunnel. They would find the criminals in the tunnel quite wet but unharmed. They left without offering resistance and refused medical assistance from the firefighters.
All offenders were identified and fined under current Covid-19 measures, as well as the establishment in question.
Party with 50 young people
The Loures Division of the PSP also ended at dawn on January 24 with a party of about 50 young people, inside a shed, in Pontinha. All offenders were identified and fined.
After the police intervention, without registering any incident, the offenders went immediately to their homes, in order to comply with the general duty of home collection.
