Trump: more than 140 pardons and commutations of punishment within hours of leaving the White House

The US president pardoned and commuted sentences on Wednesday to more than 140 people, including former adviser Steve Bannon as part of various leniency actions in the final hours of his tenure in the White House.

In all, Donald Trump has pardoned 73 people and commuted 70 others, in a list that includes former congressmen, political allies and his family and even famous rapper Lil Wayne.

“President Donald J. Trump pardoned 73 people and commuted the sentences of another 70,” the White House statement read.

Neither Trump nor his children are on the pardon list.

Steve Bannon, 66, was one of the architects of Donald Trump’s successful 2016 presidential campaign.

Bannon received leniency on charges of embezzlement allegedly destined for the construction of a wall on the US-Mexico border.

“Bannon has been an important leader in the Conservative movement and is known for his political experience,” the White House statement added.

According to the New York Times, Trump made the decision to pardon his former adviser at the last minute after talking on the phone.

The list of other pardons includes his former fundraiser Elliott Broidy, who was indicted for an illegal lobbying campaign, and American rapper Lil Wayne, who pleaded guilty last month to a weapons possession charge, which he faced. up to 10 years in prison.

In recent months, Trump, who is due to fly to Florida this morning, has used this presidential power to exonerate employees and family members. Some were convicted in the investigation of possible collusion between Russia and its campaign team in 2016.
