A criminal investigating judge from Braga decided to bring former socialist deputy Domingos Pereira to trial for the alleged misuse of vehicles from the municipality of Barcelos on trips between this city and the Assembly of the Republic.

According to a note published today on the website of the Porto Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the investigating judge confirmed the prosecution of the Public Ministry (MP), charging the accused with the crimes of embezzlement and abuse of power.

At the time of the events, Domingos Pereira was a deputy in the Assembly of the Republic and also a councilor and vice president of the Chamber of Barcelos, on a non-permanent basis.

The MP considered the accused that Domingos Pereira, between November 2015 and March 2016, “used to travel between the City Council of Barcelos and the Assembly of the Republic, and return, three vehicles that were for the exclusive use of members of the municipality’s executive. , as well as the services of the respective driver hired by the Municipality of Barcelos ”.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, these displacements occurred “exclusively” within the scope of the exercise of the mandate as a deputy and not for reasons of service to the Municipality of Barcelos.

The prosecution also emphasizes that the accused, as a non-permanent councilor, “had no right to use a municipal vehicle, or a driver, when its use was not intended to serve the municipality or attend ordinary and extraordinary meetings. respective bodies ”.

Underlining that the accused, as a deputy, “always received” the allowances for travel between the residence and the Assembly of the Republic, the Public Ministry adds that Domingos Pereira, with his conduct, caused a loss of 1,749 euros to the Chamber of Barcelos . .

Lusa contacted Domingos Pereira, who said he was “completely at peace with his conscience,” adding that “the entire accusation will be dismantled at the trial.”

Domingos Pereira, however, joined the PS and left the post of deputy in the Assembly of the Republic.

He founded the independent Barcelos movement, Terra de Futuro, for which he was elected councilor in the last municipalities.
