The new state of emergency will be in effect from midnight on Friday, January 15, until 11:50 p.m. on January 30. The Government announced today a new prison period similar to the one in force in March and April 2020, with the exception of the schools that will remain open.

António Costa also announced that the fines related to the rules to stop the pandemic will be doubled, as in the case of wearing a mask.

“All fines for violating any of the pandemic containment rules, such as wearing a mask, are doubled, so there is a clear signal of determination of a greater effort to contain the pandemic at the most dangerous time,” he said today the Prime Minister. Minister.

Currently, the fines range between 100 and 500 euros. With the new regime, they can reach 1,000 euros.

The state of emergency is in effect from 00:00 hours on January 15 next Friday until 23:59 hours on January 30.
