The president of the Republic and reelected to the position, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, was “very angry” with the health authorities today because he did not receive, “in writing, a position” on whether or not he could attend the debate that is taking place out tonight. in RTP

“I feel very irritated because they do not give me, in writing, a position on whether I can go to the debate or not. And for that reason, I had no position, I waited, I waited, the first position was that I could go, the second was that, verbally, I was waiting for a meeting and, when in doubt, I returned home to do [o debate] from home I was not going to do Belém, the debate is not with the President of the Republic, it is with the candidate. The minimum is to have a written response ”from the health authorities, defended the head of state in statements to RTP upon arrival at his residence in Cascais, Lisbon district.

The ree-candidate for Belém added that when that answer arrives, “of course”, he no longer has time to go to Pátio da Galé, in Lisbon, to debate in person with the six remaining candidates.

For this reason, “you will ask RTP to make a video conference” from your home.

“I don’t know how, I have to improvise, and then I have to stay here, I am not going to return to Belém, I have to stay here for the next few days, as long as they understand that I must be isolated,” continued the head of state.

Marcelo considered “legitimate” the decision to stay home, since the “President has to be treated like any ordinary citizen”, however, “deserves an answer that says whether or not he can go” to the debate.

The candidate stressed that it is necessary to “find out what happened.”

The President of the Republic conducted four tests to determine the presence of SARS-CoV-2 (one antigen and three CRPs). The result of the first (antigen) was negative, but in the meantime, Marcelo received a positive result.

However, the President – who canceled the entire agenda scheduled for today, that is, the physical presence at the meeting on the epidemiological situation of the country and the hearings with the parties – received two negative results today.

Most of the candidates, who contacted Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa during the last week in the debates that took place in RTP, SIC and TVI, canceled the actions of today’s campaign and opted for prophylactic isolation.

The debate between the seven candidates for Belém was scheduled for 9:50 p.m. today, at Pátio da Galé, in Lisbon, and will be broadcast on RTP1 and RTP3. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is the only one participating virtually.
