The boy rescued by the Judicial Police in the Netherlands is the son of Portuguese emigrants and was taken to Portugal by his mother.
The mother disagreed with the joint custody regulation and took the girl to Portugal at the end of 2019. Since then, she has not gone to school or seen her father or family. The Judicial Police (PJ) located and rescued the girl in Azambuja.
The six-year-old girl will have already been handed over to her paternal grandparents and her father will soon travel to Portugal. He hasn’t seen her since the end of 2019, when her mother brought her from the Netherlands.
A coordinator of the Directorate of the Judicial Police Center added that it is a Portuguese couple living in the Netherlands and that they separated, and the woman did not agree with the joint custody regulation established by a Dutch court.
“As the mother was not satisfied, she returned to Portugal with her daughter, having both been located last Friday,” explained Carlos Chambel, adding that their arrival in the country “led to the opening of a case in a juvenile court in Portugal “as well as the efforts of the authorities to locate his whereabouts.
According to the coordinator, “various addresses” were sought to try to locate the minor, who “was prevented from going to school and living with her family.”
Carlos Chambel also added that the child will have already been handed over to his paternal grandparents, adding that eventually the boy’s father will also come to Portugal.
“The mother was accused, being accused of the crime of kidnapping minors and not kidnapping, since the deception is different,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, a process will take place in the Alcobaça Family and Juvenile Court.
