The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed an orange alert for the Madeira archipelago on Monday due to the forecast of rainy periods, accompanied by electrical storms.
This warning is the second most serious on a scale of four for the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo and will be in effect between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm on Monday. Then between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. it will change to a yellow warning, which will also be in effect between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. that day.
According to IPMA forecasts, the north, south, mountainous regions and the island of Porto Santo will occur on Monday due to “periods of rain or showers, sometimes intense and accompanied by electrical storms.”
As for the wind, it will blow strongly to the south / southeast, with gusts of up to 90 km / h, but only in mountainous regions.
After this period, according to the IPMA of a yellow warning between 6 and 9 in the morning, after this time the warning changes to orange until 3 in the afternoon, due to rain forecasts.
