Sporting, the isolated leader of the Portuguese First Football League, receives the fourth-placed Sporting de Braga this Saturday, opening the year 2021 with a high difficulty test of the aspirations to the title, in the opening match of the 12th day.
‘Leões’ and Minho face each other in the first match of 2021 at the highest level of Portuguese football, entering the field a day before their rivals in the fight for the title: Benfica, second place, and champion FC Porto, third, alone they play on Sunday, with Santa Clara and Moreirense, respectively.
The Lisboners, leading with 29 points, two more than the ‘eagles’, four than the ‘dragons’ and five than the ‘warriors’, have fought to win in the last two games, with Farense (1-0) and Belenenses SAD (2-1), while Carlos Carvalhal’s formation has shown its best football.
The weak victories with Rio Ave (3-0) and Boavista (4-1) attest to the good moment in Braga, with the visit to the José Alvalade Stadium, scheduled for today and refereed by Fábio Veríssimo, functioning as a ‘bullshit’ of the title credentials of both the leader and the pursuers.
If coach Rúben Amorim had the ‘recovered’ Nuno Mendes and Jovane, the coach from Braga is not so lucky, with Sequeira in doubt and Tormena, Bruno Viana, David Carmo and André Castro as safe casualties, due to the positive test of the new one coronavirus.
