The man of the city – News

Carlos, or charming to friends, was a family man and for the family. And I was lucky enough to be sponsored by his will, the day I was born.

He and my parents were very close friends, and although I was not baptized, he insisted that I be his godson on the sole condition that I be able to enroll in his beloved Belenenses. I confess that since I was eighteen I have not paid fees, because I did not share the same passion for the beautiful game that Carlos had, but knowing that he had a love for “Belém”, this act had a great meaning for me.

There were many vacations in Galé, dinners and evenings of conversations with an exquisite sense of humor, which characterized him so well.

What’s left? It remains a job that we can all be proud of. A legacy of songs that are the X-ray of our soul.

There are the attitudes of a man with a “backbone” and unmatched righteousness. He continues to be the image of a “gentleman” who, even when he scolded me for wearing a hat at the table, he did it with singular elegance. It is an example that a fado singer can and should bring together so many colleagues, young and old, of the fado or any other musical genre, sharing the stage with a generosity that only a great artist with a well-cared-for ego can have.

I miss you a lot and a Lisboa Menina e Moça that, with all humility, we will keep trying to sing.

A kiss to all the family, friends and, above all, to the tireless and kind Judite. Goodbye, dear Carlos.
