The vaccination plan began today in Vila Franca do Campo, in São Miguel, specifically in the Lar da Santa Casa da Misericórdia.

Nurse Marina Tavares, 35, who has worked at Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Vila Franca for 12 years, was the first person to be vaccinated in the region.

“Of course I feel a bit anxious, but I also have confidence in the work that was done so that we could get here and the vaccine we have in hand now will mark a better stage for 2021,” the nurse told the Lusa agency before of vaccination. .

During the vaccination, applause was heard from all those present in the social center of the home.

This was attended by the regional secretary of Health, Clélio Meneses, the mayor of Vila Franca do Campo, Ricardo Rodrigues, and the provider of the Santa Casa of that town, Lucindo Couto.

Speaking to Lusa, the mayor of Vila Franca do Campo stressed that what is “truly important” is “to start the vaccination process” in the archipelago, which must be done “as soon as possible”.

“What I understand about vaccines is that we should not ask to be the first, we must accept with joy and satisfaction that we have been chosen to be the first municipality,” said Ricardo Rodrigues.

The choice of Vila Franca do Campo was due to the epidemiological situation of the municipality, which has 93 infected (data from last Wednesday).

For the mayor, the evolution of covid-19 in Vila Franca do Campo “is controlled as much as possible.”

“What reassures us is that we know all the epidemiological chains. The large number of infected people we have is due to transmission within families, “he said.
