The operation to find the missing tourist on Tuesday in a wooded area of ​​Calheta, Madeira Island, was permanently suspended today, the municipality’s fire department said, referring that the case was passed to the PSP.

“We attacked the entire area without success and the case now goes to the Public Security Police,” the commander of the Calheta Volunteer Firefighters, Jacinto Serrão, told the Lusa agency, clarifying that the searches were suspended around 4:00 pm .

The foreign citizen, presumably a 28-year-old German, has been missing since 2 in the afternoon on Tuesday, when he will have contacted a friend by cell phone, alerting him that he got lost on a route, in Rabaçal, an area forest with several trails and levadas.

The Volunteer Firefighters of Calheta, a municipality in the west of the island, were only informed of the event around 8:00 p.m., the time they began a motorized search, and I tried to resume the operation with a clear search on Wednesday morning and again today.

“We hit the whole area, all the roads, all the trails without leaving a trace, without any trace of the missing person,” said Jacinto Serrão, indicating that today, members of the Calheta Volunteer Firefighters, the Forest Police and the PSP participated in the search, in a total of 19 operations.
