COVID-19. More than 6049 infected (the second worst number of the month), 79 dead and 3222 recovered in Portugal

Since December 5, Portugal has not registered such a high number of infections in 24 hours. This Wednesday there are more than 6,049 infected (there were 6,087 on 05/12), 79 dead and 3,222 recovered.

The country has so far registered a total of 406,051 infected, 6830 deaths, 331,016 recovered. There are currently 68,205 active cases and 91,090 contacts under surveillance by the health authorities.

Hospitalizations maintain the decreasing trend of the previous day: this Wednesday there are 34 less hospitalized patients (total: 2896), but one more (total: 487) admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICU).

The deaths occurred in all regions of mainland Portugal and are distributed as follows: 31 in the north, 25 in Lisbon and the Tagus valley, 12 in the center, nine in the Alentejo and two in the Algarve. The fatality rate, the relationship between confirmed cases and deaths, is 1.68%.

Center with more than 1000 cases in 24 hours, a new high

The Central region for the first time exceeded 1000 daily cases, after registering 1063 cases of infection in the last 24 hours. Despite this important jump, that region represents only 17.6% of the total pie, which means that the number of cases reported in the remaining regions is more significant. Lisbon and Tagus Valley: 2097 cases (34.67%)
Center: 1063 cases (17.6%)
