A 45-year-old American nurse from California tested positive for COVID-19 more than a week after being inoculated with the Pfizer vaccine, according to the Reuter agency, cited by TVI24, on Wednesday. Experts say that the first dose of the vaccine only guarantees fifty percent immunity and only the second can reach 95 percent.
According to an ABC News source, Mathew W, a nurse at two hospitals, says he started with a sore arm the day he was vaccinated, Dec. 18, but had no further side effects.
However, six days later, on Christmas Eve, Mathew fell ill after another shift in the covid-19 ward. The nurse says she had chills and later muscle aches and fatigue. The nurse then went to the unit at the testing center where she ended up testing negative the day after Christmas.
Christian Ramers, an American infectious disease specialist, explained to the BBC that this is not an “unexpected” scenario. “We know from clinical trials of the vaccine that it takes ten to fourteen days for a person to develop the protection that the vaccine provides,” said the expert, adding that “the first dose gives about 50 percent immunity and that it’s a second dose to reach 95 percent, “he explained.
