PSP and GNR fought this Monday in relation to the escort of vaccine transport departing from the Évora Hospital to the Algarve, according to TVI. The Ministry of the Interior (MAI) has already requested urgent consultation opening by the General Inspection of Internal Administration (IGAI) to find out what happened.

The van that transported the Covid-19 vaccines came from Coimbra accompanied by the GNR, having been blocked after unloading the first shipment of the drug at the Hospital de Évora, which begins vaccination on Tuesday.

This blockade is at the root of a disagreement over territorial powers: on the one hand, the Republican National Guard is in charge of the distribution of vaccines nationwide. Instead, from the moment the vehicle entered Évora, the jurisdiction became that of the Public Security Police.

Then the vehicle was detained at the hospital for about half an hour., when the decision of the hierarchies arrived that the escort from there would be from both forces.

Faced with the PSP blockade, the GNR soldiers were outraged, unable to follow the route that ended in the Algarve, passing through hospitals in the lower Alentejo.

Regarding the investigation, Minister Eduardo Cabrita also asked the Secretary General of the Internal Security System for “information on the traffic monitoring and clearance rules defined to make this distribution effective,” a statement read.
