The second delivery of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines against covid-19, with 70,200 doses, has already arrived in Portugal today, revealed the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, underlining that the country was not affected by a delay from the pharmaceutical company.

“Portugal has already received the amount of vaccines from this second delivery that was expected and, therefore, we were not affected by this disruption in the delivery that will have reached other countries. What we had planned from the beginning is that there would be deliveries on the 28th, which have not yet finished, and we know that it is a complex process from a logistical point of view, “said the minister, referring to the delay in the second delivery already reported in Spain.

Pfizer Spain announced today that “tonight it was informed by its factory in Puurs (Belgium) about the delay in shipments to eight European countries, including Spain, due to a problem in the loading and shipping process.”

Speaking at the Curry Cabral Hospital in Lisbon, where she saw a new vaccination action by health professionals, Marta Temido explained that this delivery “has already materialized in part at the Porto airport” and that it will also be distributed ” for the continuation of this vaccination process in more hospitals of the National Health Service and also in the first primary care units ”of the country.

“We are still waiting for the transport – which is expected to be direct – to the Azores archipelago and the Madeira archipelago,” added the minister, who indicated that Portugal estimates that it will receive “79,950 deliveries in each of the four weeks of January” and that He is convinced that the country “will be able to overcome these circumstances that today affect some countries.”

Portugal represents at least 6,619 deaths associated with covid-19 in 394,573 confirmed cases of infection, according to the latest bulletin from the Directorate General of Health (DGS).
