The TAP Remuneration Committee approved the increase in Ramiro Sequeira’s monthly salary to 35,000 euros gross per month, almost doubling the amount he previously earned as Director of Operations (COO). The move is retroactive until mid-September, when he became acting CEO of the airline.
According to Eco, which details the amounts involved in this approved salary update while preparing a restructuring plan with layoffs, the Government endorsed the new salaries at the airline’s summit, despite not having a representative on this salary commission.
Despite the upward revision, in which the chairman of the board of directors, Miguel Frasquilho (from 12 thousand to 13.5 thousand euros gross per month), and Alexandra Vieira Reis, who joined the executive committee (from 14 thousand to 25 thousand euros)), Ramiro Sequeira is far from the 45 thousand euros of fixed income of his predecessor, Antonoaldo Neves, to which he added 14 thousand euros for the home and the education of the children.

The members of the board of directors will also be covered by the salary reductions from 25% to 30% foreseen in the TAP restructuring plan, justified by the “need to adjust salaries to current reality”. Base salaries up to 900 euros are exempt from cuts.
In addition to reducing the group’s payroll by 250 to 300 million per year and the number of commercial aircraft that make up the company’s fleet, from 108 to 88, the plan delivered to the European Commission also provides for the dismissal of 500 pilots, 750 crew members of cabin, 450 maintenance and engineering workers and 250 from other areas.
Suspended company agreements
The plan also implies the suspension of the corporate agreements, a measure without which, according to the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Pedro Nuno Santos, it would not be possible to restructure TAP. Last week the Council of Ministers approved a resolution declaring TAP, Portugália and Cateringpor, the catering company of the TAP group, in a “difficult economic situation”.
Through a statement, the Aviation and Airport Workers’ Union (Sitava) has already condemned the “cheap” and “treacherous” blow to the TAP workers, applied by “a PS government and a minister. [Pedro Nuno Santos] who never tires of calling himself a leftist ”.
“The workers were violently attacked with the news of the resolution of the Council of Ministers that, cowardly, came to rob the workers of one of the oldest and most suffered conquests of their already long history of struggles,” said the union, referring to collective bargaining. whose first collective bargaining agreement was signed 50 years ago.
