A wedding party in Alter do Chão, in the Portalegre district, brought together more than 50 people and lasted from Monday, December 21 to Saturday, reported Correio da Manhã. GNR tried to demobilize the guests, but without success. When assistance was requested from the Intervention Unit, there were no means that could reach the site.

The party was taking place in the Horta das Furnas neighborhood, violating measures to contain the transmission of the coronavirus. The complaint was made by the neighbors.

The GNR was received at the site in a hostile manner and had to request reinforcements from two neighboring posts to end the celebration early Thursday. Later, the couple returned to the same place and the patrols were unable to demobilize them again.

“Reinforcements were requested from the Intervention Unit, but the command’s response was that there were no means,” António Barreira, coordinator of the Association of Professionals of the South Guard, told Correio da Manhã.

“A position that has two military personnel may also have to serve in another neighboring municipality. There are often situations in which three municipalities are served for eight hours, ”António Barreira told TSF.

The municipality of Alter do Chão is classified as having an extremely high risk of contagion from Covid-19.
