Formed in the North Atlantic, the storm ‘Bella’ advances towards the Iberian Peninsula with rains, which will be snowed in the Sierra, strong wind, reduced temperature and strong agitation of the sea. The possibility of wave formation up to seven meters high leads the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere to place this Monday under orange alert -the second most serious- the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria and Lisbon.

The cold will be felt more in the northern and central regions, with the possibility of snowfall in Alto Miño, Trás-os-Montes and Serra da Estrela due to the displacement of the polar air mass from northern Europe. The forecast is very cloudy, gradually opening from north to south from the morning. There is the possibility of rainy periods, turning into showers, which can occasionally be hail and accompanied by thunderstorms in the north.

Meanwhile, on the island of Madeira, road connections were restored to towns that were isolated after the storm that hit the island’s north coast on Christmas Day and displaced 27 people.
