Marques Mendes advises Portuguese citizens to be careful with the vaccination process against Covid-19 that began this Sunday in Portugal. “We have 22 million doses, but we do not know when we will have several available, because some have not yet been authorized. Be careful, this doesn’t come all at once ”, he said.

In his usual space for political comment on “SIC”, the former ninister of Parliamentary Affairs, assumed that it is good for the Portuguese to have hope in the vaccine, but that they should not enter into euphoria and thus begin to reduce security measures. “It is the first idea that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, although the tunnel is still long,” he said.

Marques Mendes stressed that the fact that the first vaccines have been administered to health professionals is a message of confidence for the population. “It is better than any political speech”, congratulating the fact that in less than a year a vaccine was created to combat Covid-19. “The mumps vaccine had taken four years to produce,” he recalled.

The political commentator also praised the European Union (EU) for the way it handled this entire process. “I never in my life thought that the European Union could treat vaccines from 27 countries and that they receive all vaccines at the same time. It is an absolutely remarkable example. In the case of Portugal, we will have 22 million doses of vaccines, it is also very positive, and there is no social discrimination ”, he stressed.
