A wedding party that began on the 21st, in Alter do Chão, continued this Saturday despite the warnings of the neighbors of the neighborhood and the dispatch of GNR patrols to the place – the Horta das Furnas neighborhood – several times since then .

According to the GNR General Command, in the early hours of Thursday, after a local patrol was received in a hostile manner, the reinforcement of media from two neighboring posts put an end to coexistence. But the more than 50 participants in the party quickly returned to the celebration.

Residents insisted on warning the GNR, but outnumbered, the soldiers at the local post had no power to end the party. According to the Southern coordinator of the Professional Guardian Association (APG / GNR), António Barreira, “reinforcements were requested from the Intervention Unit, but the command’s response was that there were no means.”

“Since then, the party continues without a response from the GNR,” says the official, warning that this situation is “a reflection of the lack of human resources” and that it “conveys a feeling of impunity and insecurity to the populations.”
