The daily bulletin of the General Directorate of Health this Saturday reports 1214 new cases of covid-19 in Portugal, reaching a total of 392,996 cases since the start of the pandemic.

There are 78 more deaths, most of them in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (32) and in the North region (30). In total, 6,556 people with covid-19 have died in Portugal since the start of the pandemic.

This number of new cases corresponds to an increase of 0.3%. Looking at the historical data, 74 days ago the number of new cases was not so low, recalling this record on October 13 (with 1208 new cases). This low number can be explained, in part, by the lower number of tests carried out during Christmas.

When observing the age distribution of the new cases, it is possible to observe that the highest number of new registered infections is between 20 and 59 years old. Regarding deaths, the vast majority are people over 80 years of age (practically three out of four).

More than 1,545 people are recovered and, thus, the number of active cases drops again: now there are 79,769 (409 fewer cases than yesterday).

There is also a slight increase in the number of hospitalized patients, there are 36 more, totaling 2790. In intensive care there are nine more people, bringing the total to 513.

This Saturday also marks the arrival of the first 9,750 doses of the covid-19 vaccine in Portugal. Vaccination will begin tomorrow according to the plan established and announced by the Government.
